The Perfect Chelsea Saturday: An Insider’s Guide to Duke of York Square
Whether you are a lifelong Londoner or spending a weekend exploring Chelsea, there is a distinct charm to the area on a Saturday morning.
At the heart of this vibrant neighbourhood is Duke of York Square. A beautiful pedestrianised oasis just off the King’s Road, it is the ultimate destination for culture, food, and shopping.
Having called this square home for well over a decade, we have watched it evolve into one of the most welcoming spots in London. Here is our genuine insider’s guide to spending the perfect Saturday in our favourite corner of Chelsea.
10:00 AM – Grab a Bite at the Saturday Fine Food Market
Start your morning where the locals do: the weekly Duke of York Square Fine Food Market. Curated by the historic grocer Partridges, this open-air market transforms the square into a lively food hub.
Grab a coffee and wander through the stalls. You will find everything from warm empanadas and fresh oysters to French macarons and traditional Italian cannoli. It is also the perfect place to pick up artisanal cheeses and fresh sourdough for Sunday’s brunch.
11:30 AM – See What's On at the Saatchi Gallery
Once you have had a bite to eat, walk across the lawn to the Saatchi Gallery. Housed in a stunning neoclassical building, this space is famous for introducing exciting, boundary-pushing contemporary art to London.
Because the gallery focuses heavily on fresh, emerging artists, the exhibitions are always dynamic and thought-provoking. There is always something new and inspiring to look at.
1:00 PM – Browse the Franchetti Bond store (of course!)
With your creative cup full, it is time for a bit of shopping. Duke of York Square is home to a great edit of independent and classic brands including our flagship boutique at 50 Duke of York Square.
At Franchetti Bond, we design pieces that combine classic British style with effortless Italian craftsmanship. We focus on beautiful materials, thoughtful details, and silhouettes that actually work for real life. Our team is always on hand to help you find a specific piece, offer styling advice!
2:30 PM – A Sunny Al-Fresco Lunch
No Saturday in Chelsea is complete without a long, slow lunch. Duke of York Square has some of the best outdoor dining spots in the area.
If you are in the mood for modern, globally inspired plates, head to Vardo the striking, circular stone restaurant sitting right in the center of the square. Its glass walls retract entirely on warm days, making it a great spot for people-watching.
Alternatively, if you are craving classic Italian flavors, grab a table on the sun-drenched terrace at Manicomio for phenomenal fresh pasta.
4:30 PM – A Stroll Down the Iconic King’s Road
To wrap up your afternoon, step out of the square and turn onto the legendary King's Road. From its famous fashion heritage to its current mix of boutiques, florist stands, and colourful side streets (do take a quick detour down Bywater Street for the famous candy-colored houses), it remains one of London's most pleasant walks.
It is the perfect, relaxed end to a classic Chelsea Saturday.
